GoBoat Review: Explore Copenhagen Canals at Your Own Pace

During our unforgettable trip to Copenhagen, one of the absolute highlights was our experience with GoBoat. Nestled within the heart of the city, GoBoat offers an exceptional way to explore the stunning canals of Copenhagen at your own pace.

Once we had arrived in Copenhagen and witnessed the sight of mini electric boats cruising around the city’s canals whilst their occupants enjoyed a few drinks in the delightful sunshine, Dave immediately stuck the activity at the top of his ‘must-do’ list. (A small sidenote to the drinking GoBoat permit 2 alcoholic drinks per person – no drunken behaviour allowed!)

Instead of taking a tourist boat trip we opted to take our own private boat tour instead!

Fortunately for us the GoBoat hire station was located opposite our hostel at Islands Brugge. GoBoats are small, 8 seater electric self-drive boats, no previous experience is required to drive them, a quick 5 minute instruction and you are good to go. To drive the boat you just need to be 18 years old or above.

From the moment we set foot onboard our GoBoat, we were excited to explore the canals at our own pace. The staff at GoBoat provide you with a map and a route suitable for your hire duration. You do have to follow the instructions as many of the canals are one-way and even on the river you have to drive on the right to make sure you avoid the larger boats!

The GoBoat cost us 500 DKK for an hour, however the cost does vary depending on the time of day you hire the boat and how long you hire it for. The most popular time to hire the boats is early evening time, so you may need to book in advance, mornings are quieter and cheaper to hire, you could probably just turn up in the morning and get availability.

Whilst this amount was a lot of money for us, it was definitely well spent and if we returned to Copenhagen we would book a GoBoat again as it was so much fun for all of us. As the boats seat 8, you could split the cost if you were travelling with friends or extended family.

For anyone seeking a unique and memorable way to explore Copenhagen, GoBoat is an absolute must. Just the experience of hiring and driving the electric boat was enjoyable, but we also got to experience the city from a different perspective. In my opinion , for us it was more enjoyable than a crowded tourist boat.

  1. […] Our most expensive activity and definitely a ‘splurge’, but one we enjoyed immensely. This was Dave’s pick. Before we arrived in Copenhagen we were naively unaware of all the beautiful canals in the city and a popular pastime in the sunshine seemed to be cruising the canals by electric boat. Luckily for us there was a GoBoat Rental at Islands Brugge opposite our accommodation at Danhostel. The cost was DKK 500 for 1 hour. Read more about our experience with GoBoat here. […]
